Loving reasons for Singapore Citizenship
The Singapore government is known for conducting open and fair policy towards constantly introducing new laws, tax relieves, and regulations to enhance the country’s growth, security, etc. With the People Action’s Party (PAP) forming the majority in Parliament since attaining independence in 1965, Singapore has a very stable and orderly government indeed.
The Singapore citizenship is desired by most of the immigrants and expatriates around the world being the loving reasons such as stable government, corruption free system, easy access to Members of Parliament (MPs), strong economy, always maintaining with surplus budget, safe heaven, multi-racial society, subsidised great educational systems, persistent encouragement for lifelong learning, owning home ownership at 91.50% where more than 80% living in HDB flats, subsidised health care systems, tropical / equatorial climate without worries to gear up with earmuffs and windbreakers, easy accessible wheel-chair enabled public transport till past midnight, easy communications in English as the common language, low to high end shopping malls, world brand boutiques like Apple, late night shopping, plenty of outdoor activities, many grassroots organisations (GROs), very cleanliness, wide-spread public libraries, most powerful passport for availing visa freeness or on-arrival visa, etc.
After living in Singapore as Permanent Residents (preferably by contributing to both economy and community) you are eligible to apply for Singapore citizenship which is subject to very stringent criteria set by the Government of Singapore.
Singapore is a single citizenship country and this is strictly enforced. For this reason, Singapore may not be attractive if anyone is interested in holding more than one citizenship and passport.
– Children of age 1 year old and below born outside Singapore to Singapore Citizen parent(s).
– Singaporeans sponsoring their wives or husbands and children for Singapore Citizenship.
– Applicants applying based on their own merits, aged 21 and above.
If you are a Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR) who wishes to apply for Singapore Citizenship for yourself, your spouse and your children, these are the application requirements.
Under the Enlistment Act, all male Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, unless exempted* are required to serve National Service (NS). Following the completion of full-time NS, they will be required to serve up to 40 days of Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS) per year for the duration of their ORNS training cycle till the age of 50 years (for officers) or 40 years (for other ranks).
NS-liable persons are required to register for NS upon reaching 16 1/2 years old and will be scheduled for enlistment at the earliest opportunity upon reaching 18 years old. Deferment from NS for university studies, regardless of whether such studies have begun, will not be granted. Those who are pursuing full-time GCE ‘A’ Level or Polytechnic Diploma studies (or equivalent) may be granted deferment if they meet the deferment conditions stipulated by the Ministry of Defence.
All male applicants are required to access www.cmpb.gov.sg for information on NS deferment, pre-enlistment process and Exit Permit requirements, before proceeding with the application.

Singapore citizenship applications usually take six to 12 months to process. For children born overseas to Singapore citizens, the general processing time is within two months from receipt of complete documents. Some applications may take longer to process.
To check the application status or view application status updates, the main applicant/sponsor can log in to MyICA. For any clarifications or status updates, ICA will send an email to the main applicant/ sponsor. Please provide a valid email address at the time of application.
You may be called for verification of your submitted documents against your application form. You will make a declaration before the interviewing officer, stating that all information provided in your application is true and correct.
If you are applying as the spouse of a Singapore Citizen, your spouse (the sponsor) must be present during the interview.
The child must be present at least once during the interview stage or collection of citizenship certificate at the ICA or Embassy / High Commission of Singapore.
You will be notified of the outcome with Approval-In-Principle of your Singapore citizenship Application by post. The notification will indicate about the Singapore Citizenship Journey (SCJ) programme which comprises three compulsory components: (a) e-Journey; (b) Singapore Experiential Tour; and (c) Community Sharing Session. The Singapore Citizenship Journey (SCJ) is to be completed within two months from the date of Approval-In-Principle letter.

The Singapore Citizenship Journey (SCJ) helps enrich new citizens’ understanding of the key milestones in Singapore’s history and development, deepens their appreciation of Singaporean norms and values, as well as provides opportunities for meaningful interaction with their local community. The SCJ consists of both online elements as well as experiential learning programme, and culminates in a citizenship ceremony to officially welcome new citizens as full-fledged members of the Singaporean family.
The SCJ is a collaboration between the National Integration Council, the People’s Association and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore. It is a mandatory programme for new citizens who have been granted in-principle approval for Singapore citizenship. They have up to two months to complete the three components of the SCJ before they can complete citizenship formalities and receive their pink National Registration Identity Cards (NRICs) and citizenship certificates.
Only upon completion of the Singapore Citizenship Journey (SCJ), you will be notified of the final approval of your Singapore citizenship Application by post. The notification will indicate the appointment date for you to register for Singapore Citizenship at the ICA. You will also be advised to renounce your foreign citizenship at the relevant embassy or High Commission in Singapore before the appointment date with ICA.
Visit the relevant embassy or High Commission in Singapore with your passport. You will be issued with letters stating the renunciation of your citizenship, and the surrender of your passport. Note: This step is not compulsory for applicants below age 21 and whose nationality is “stateless”.

On the day of your appointment, proceed to Citizen Services Centre at ICA Building. Obtain a queue number to complete the registration of your citizenship and apply for your identity card and Singapore passport.

Oath-taking
After paying the fees, you will take the “Oath of Renunciation, Allegiance and Loyalty” before the Commissioner of Oaths.
You will be required to attend a citizenship ceremony at a later date. (applicants below 6 years of age are exempted from the ceremony).
A citizenship folder comprising your citizenship certificate and identity card will be presented to you at the citizenship ceremony.
Receive pink acknowledgement card by post and collect your prestigious Singapore Passport.
